Is Painting Your House Before You Sell Worth It?

I've recently noticed a lot of home sellers not wanting to paint their house prior to listing. Here's why investing in some paint is totally worth it.

Recently I've received a lot of comments about a home's interior paint from home sellers. I'll see bold and wild colors in their home that they don't paint over because they think a buyer will just come in and paint the colors they want anyway.

However, I think it's extremely important to go ahead and paint your house and take on the risk of the small cost of it. You don't want to sell a house with bright blue, green, or pink walls. The colors could have been beneficial to your decor, but not when the home is vacant or staged. It will look especially bad on the Internet.

Odd colors might look good with your decor, but not in a vacant or staged home.

We want your home's online photos to be as good as possible so buyers can get excited about the house and want to come see it. Bright colors can jeopardize buyers even wanting to come see your home at all.

It's worth the money to paint with neutral colors that are common and that buyers want to see. You'd think people would be able to look past odd paint colors, but I've actually lost sales over it.

How Our Home Valuation Tool Really Works

After you click on our home value tool, we don’t just email you with a price. We take a few more steps in order to make sure that we get the most accurate value for your home.

Want to sell your home? Get a FREE home value report.
Want to buy a home? Search all homes for sale.

If you click on our free home value tool on our blog, a form will pop up for you to fill out. You will enter your name, phone number, some information about your home, and then hit ‘submit.’

Some people believe that once you fill out this information, we will just send you an email that gives you a broad evaluation of what your home might be worth. However, we don’t like to do that. One of our agents will actually reach out to you to have a conversation about your home value.

We understand that your home is incredibly important to you. After all, you have spent a lot of time and energy on that property. You have made a lot of memories in that house and it is obviously valuable to you.

We will look at your home in person to see what it is worth in the market.

We prefer to have a conversation with you about your home because if we don’t, then we would be no better than Zillow. Zillow just spits out an automated Zestimate of what your home is worth, and those Zestimates are usually off anywhere between 5% and 15%.

We like to gather all of the information about your home, run a comparative market analysis, and figure out what your home is really worth in today’s market.

So, after you fill out your information, one of our agents will reach out to you to set up an appointment to walk through your property. If you have updated your kitchen with granite countertops, added a pool, or done some new landscaping, all of those upgrades impact your home value. We need to see the condition of your home, figure out which features are important to you, and which features are important to the next buyer in order to know what your home is worth.

If you have any questions about the home valuation process, give us a call or send us an email. We would be happy to help you!
